Can UHF RFID tags be attached to metal surfaces without losing signal?

Standard UHF RFID tags will not work directly on metal. The metal reflects and detunes the RF signal, causing near-total read failure. To solve this, anti-metal UHF tags use a ferrite backing layer that isolates the antenna from the metal surface, restoring full read performance. In the TAGTIX UHF collection, the PF6025 on-metal tag and the P102 ABS mount-on-metal tag are designed specifically for metal surfaces and deliver up to 12-meter read range on steel tools, server racks, industrial equipment, and vehicles. If your assets are non-metallic such as plastic, wood, or cardboard, any standard UHF inlay or PET tag will work without special treatment.

How do I choose the right UHF RFID tag form factor for my application?

The right form factor depends on what you are tagging and the environment it operates in. For flat dry surfaces like cardboard boxes and plastic pallets, the 9662 sticker or PET7018 waterproof tag work well. For metal tools and equipment, use the PF6025 on-metal or P102 ABS tag. For round or irregular objects like cables and pipes, the ZD330 cable tie tag straps on securely. For high-temperature environments such as furnaces or automotive manufacturing, the PCB heat-resistant tag handles up to 300 degrees Celsius. For very small items like lab samples or jewelry, the ultra-small tag or PET6826 jewelry tag fits without obstructing the item. The key factors are surface material, shape, and operating temperature.

What kind of RFID reader and software do I need to use these UHF tags?

All tags in this collection operate on the standard UHF frequency band from 860 to 960 MHz and follow the EPC Gen2 and ISO 18000-6C protocol. This means they are compatible with any standard UHF RFID reader from brands like Zebra, Impinj, and Chainway, including handheld scanners and fixed readers. The tags ship blank and can be programmed with your own EPC codes using any compatible reader and basic RFID software. For inventory scanning, a handheld reader is typically sufficient. For automated tracking at dock doors or checkpoints, a fixed reader with antennas is more suitable. No proprietary reader or software is required.

To kick off development, you only need to pay the development fee as a down payment. You will not make any further payments until you receive the sample module and confirm that it works 100%.

The development fee is based on the specific functions you require. However, it can be deducted after your total orders from us reach a certain amount.

In total, including the development fee and unit costs, our clients typically save 20% on material costs compared to their previous supplier.

How long does the development process takes?

It usually takes 4 weeks to develop the sample module with your required function from scratch. Depending on the functions you requested, it may end up shorter or longer.

After the development is done, we’ll send you the sample module to test compatibility. We’ll work with you till it’s 100% working with your systems before the batch production.

How can I make sure the custom readers work in compatible with our systems or equipments?

We know compatibility can be a concern when purchasing a large batch of readers. When we’re done developing the prototype, we’ll send you a sample first to test compatibility.
