If you're tagging laptops or metal shelving, start with a label that fits the available flat surface.

For a Smaller Label Area: PF6025 measures 60 × 25 × 1.2 mm and has a reference read range of 5 m, depending on your reader and environment.
When You Have More Space: PF7030 measures 70 × 30 × 1.2 mm and has a reference read range of 7 m, depending on your reader and environment.
For Equipment Exposed to Heat: Consider a PCB tag if your metal equipment goes through a heated process. Tell us the temperature and how long it stays hot so we can check whether the tag suits your application.

Do RFID Tags Work on Metal?

Yes, our on-metal UHF RFID tags are designed to work on metal surfaces. If you're labeling a laptop, shelf or piece of equipment, use an on-metal design and try it in the spot where you plan to attach it. An ordinary UHF sticker may lose reading distance on that same surface.

Are Anti-Metal RFID Tags the Same as On-Metal Tags?

Yes, you'll usually see anti-metal and on-metal used for the same kind of RFID tag. Both describe tags designed for metal surfaces. If your application has other requirements, such as heat resistance on a metal surface or a specific reading distance, please feel free to chat with us for a tag size recommendation that suits your needs.

Does Tag Placement Matter on Laptops and Metal Shelving?

Yes, where you attach the tag can make a real difference to how reliably you read it. We'd start with a flat area that supports the whole label and faces your usual scanning direction. Try a few positions with your reader before labeling all your assets.

Will an On-Metal Tag Keep the Same Read Range on Every Asset?

No, the same tag won't give you the same reading distance on every asset. Your reader and environment affect the result, along with the metal surface and tag angle. Our listed ranges are references to help you shortlist a tag; testing on your own equipment tells you what to expect in use.

Can I Print EPC and Serial Numbers on On-Metal RFID Labels?

Yes, you can print EPC and serial numbers on our PF6025 and PF7030 labels with a compatible printer. Share your printer model with us so we can check the media requirements. Both labels are 1.2 mm thick, which is thicker than usual RFID inlays, so some regular UHF printers may not support them. You'll need a printer that specifically supports thicker on-metal RFID media. Printing a number on the label and encoding that number into its RFID chip are separate steps, so both need the right setup.
